Like most parents, I often wonder what it is my daugter is thinking about, and what it is that babies dream about. Well, early this morning I think I got a glimpse. As I was putting Julia back to bed, she had this little smile on her face, and then suddenly she was laughing. And not just a little laugh, an all out laugh that she usually reserves for when she is playing peek-a-boo, or some other game with her Daddy. Fast asleep, laughing like crazy. So I figure, her dreams must be a comedy!

Our little Julia is sleeping right now… she is all tuckered out from not quite being able to crawl. She is so close to being able to get herself across the room without rolling, but just not quite there yet. Thus, she spends most of her days trying to crawl, which is hard work for a baby, making nap time even more important. When the big event does happen, we will be sure to let you all know. But until then, or whenever I post next, happy crawling, walking, or whatever your mode of travel is.

Another Weekend of Firsts (and Seconds)
Posted on January 22nd, 2007 at 1:52 pm by Derek/Shannon|no comments yet

This past weekend was a busy one for our Julia with new things happening all around her. First off, she went to the church nursery for the first time — which was also the first time she was left with a non-family member. She did pretty well there. She was happy to play with the helpers that we left her with, and only became upset and started to cry at the very end of the church service because she was tired/hungry. She made it over an hour without either Derek or I within arms reach, and we all lived to tell the tale!

Secondly, Julia and I (her mom) started swimming lessons at the Talisman Centre for the first time on Sunday. She did pretty well there too. She was a bit shocked when I dunked her (the instructor said to do it!), but recovered quickly and was starting to kick her legs and splash with her arms by the end of the lesson. She seemed to enjoy being in the water and really liked being around all of the other babies. Derek took some pictures of us in the pool, which I will hopefully post later today. I must also say that I was impressed with the changing facilities at the pool. The family change area is a series of self enclosed full serviced individual change rooms; each with its own change table, toilet, sink, and shower. This makes it so much easier to get ready for the pool!

And finally, Julia had another run-in with the dreaded peas this weekend. However, she reacted much more positively to them! She willingly ate the whole serving, and even smiled a little. Stay tuned for pictures a wee bit later!

Baby Life Update
Posted on January 20th, 2007 at 6:04 pm by Derek/Shannon|no comments yet

These past weeks have been relatively calm for our little Julia. She spent some time at her Grandma Kathy’s house in Red Deer, upgraded to her bigger (yet still rear-facing) car seat in Daddy’s van, and is now the proud new owner of a new stroller; a Combi Cosmo DX in aqua.  Julia has been expanding her diet these past weeks; she now eats three kinds of cereal (rice, oats, barley), tolerates prunes when mixed in with her cereal, tried peas (did not like them!) and has just started tasting sweet potatoes (which she likes).  She is still not crawling, but tries her hardest to get around on her own using alternative methods; usually rolling. As for future adventures, we will see what tonight and tomorrow hold… her first trip to the church nursery and the start of swimming lessons!
