Where’s the beef?

Sometime between Sunday and tonight Julia decided that she would eat beef. She has been “eating” it for about 10 days, but definately not enjoying it… until tonight. She ate every last bit of her beef and sweet potatoes as if it was oatmeal (her favourite non-fruit food), and not a peep or a squeak of protest. There were even a few “mmm” during the meal. To say the least Derek and I were quite pleased with our little girl. As for other foods, here is a list of what she is now eating to satisfy any burning curiosity you may have:
Veggies: Sweet potatoes, yams, green and yellow beans, peas, carrots
Fruits: Fruit cocktail (minus the red dye cherries), peaches, pears, banannas, avacado, apples, oranges, cantaloupe, prunes
Protiens: Beef, chicken, egg yolk
Grains: Rice, oats, barley, wheat, cheerios, rice cakes, pasta
She is also learning how to feed herself with her fingers; thus far she is most successful with small bits of bananna, but is happy with anything we have given her to try feeding to herself. There have actually been times in the past week where we have all been eating together… at the same time!

Ba ba ba ba ba… That is the language of our little one these days. Julia has discovered that she can make the sound “ba” and now happily makes it throughout the day. Both Derek and I talk back to Julia in her newfound language, we just hope that we are not agreeing to something crazy!

What Julia did this weekend:
1. Got her six month shots and only cried a little bit. She now weighs 16lbs and has grown 2cm since Christmas.
2. Had a birthday party for her Grandpa at her house. She got to watch all of us eat pizza and frozen yogurt cake.
3. Got 3 presents from the Netherlands from Grandpa; a Miffy doll that sings and talks, wooden shoes, and wooden shoe style slippers.
4. Tried chicken (so-so) and peaches (mmm).
5. Went swimming
As for this week, we go to the doctor tomorrow for her six month checkup and she gets her six month photos taken!
Six Months Already!

Julia is six months old today. It is a little crazy how quickly these past months have gone by, and just mind boggling how much a baby changes at the beginning of her little life! To commerate this day we stayed in for most of the day (as it was snowing lots and lots), later visited some new showhomes, and then went out for supper with Grandma Kathy. Okay, perhaps these events weren’t in honour of Julia, but she will never know. As for our Julia, she has been busy these past few days. She went in her first “belly boat” at swimming lessons on Sunday at the pool — she was kicking her legs like crazy. No, she did not wear waders! Yesterday we went shopping with Grandma Kathy and inspected her Dad’s handywork in the basement, and this weekend everyone on her Daddy’s side of the family is coming to visit! She sure has missed her Grandpa, as she has not seen him in several weeks! As for Mom and Dad, we are a bit tired; Dad has been working hard downstairs and we got to spend several hours of quality time last night with our baby who just wouldn’t sleep. Let’s hope for sleep tonight.
